Principal Horn of Euphonia Toronto since 2013, Roslyn is a prolific performer throughout Canada and the U.S. A frequent guest musician with many of Canada’s top orchestras, including the Canadian Opera Company, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (among others) Roslyn also appears regularly in the pit orchestras of theatre productions across Ontario. She is a past recipient of the Grant for Emerging Artists from the Canada Council for the Arts. Currently, Roslyn is acting 4th horn of the Niagara Symphony and is the co-founder of the Ichos Collective, which fosters the development of women producers in the arts.
Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, Roslyn is a proud and grateful product of her public high school music education program! She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from the University of Victoria and a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Performance from the New England Conservatory in Boston. It was during those latter years that she discovered her undying love of the Boston Red Sox, a love she maintains in Canada to this day, despite the heckling. Her principal teachers include James Sommerville, Joan Watson and Richard Ely and past summers have seen Roslyn performing as a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Centre, Spoleto Opera Festival, and the Lucerne Academy Festival in Switzerland (go for the music, stay for the chocolate…)
Roslyn spent 4 wild and wonderful years as a Fellow of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach and while there, was offered positions in both the Thunder Bay Symphony and Auckland Philharmonia. She spent most of her 20’s and 30’s travelling extensively (and accumulating a colourful tour bus vocabulary) and has performed with many renowned musicians including Yo-Yo Ma, Renee Fleming, Pierre Boulez, Michael Tilson Thomas, John Williams, John Adams, Audra MacDonald, Norm Lewis, David Allen Grier, Diana Krall, Josh Groban, Frank Sinatra Jr., Roger Hodgson, Sarah MacLachlan, and many others. She has appeared onstage with the BBC Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, The Cleveland Orchestra, Vermont Symphony, Regina Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Kingston Symphony, Niagara Symphony and the Thunder Bay Symphony, among others. Roslyn has performed as Acting Principal Horn with both the Atlanta Opera (Atlanta, GA) and Opéra Comique (Paris) and in 2011, was an originating musician in the Tony Award-winning "The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess" at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA. In 2015 Roslyn was appointed as Principal Horn in a one-year position with the Kingston Symphony.
A multi-faceted performer, Roslyn has recorded with many solo artists, including Ron Sexsmith and Mike Evin, and relishes playing with the wide variety of jazz and pop acts that make their way through Toronto. As a teacher, she has been on faculty at Miami-Dade College (Miami, FL), Kingsway College School and the Dana Hall School of Music (Wellesley, MA), and is currently a specialist music instructor at Havergal College in Toronto and adjunct faculty at Upper Canada College.
Roslyn is passionate about forging a unique and meaningful artistic career and supplements her French horn work with song writing, instrumental folk composition and brass arranging. Having recovered from a past playing injury and task-specific focal dystonia, she is a dedicated and enthusiastic support coach for other colleagues and students currently suffering from injury.
Roslyn lives in Toronto, Ontario with her family (including her 11 year old son Ewan, who really wanted to be included in this biography).
